TARA (Trade Alternative Reform Action) Projects was established in the early seventies with the objective of creating opportunities for economic growth for economically disadvantaged artisans and craftsmen of Delhi and its surrounding areas in the informal home-based sector. It has since extended its extended its work to the adjoining states, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan in Northern India.
TARA is actively engaged in providing support services to the production and marketing of handicrafts based on Fair Trade Principles, while also addressing community development needs of artisans and their families.
TARA focused in four key domains.
Livelihoods
TARA works with artisan communities in Delhi, UP, Haryana and Rajisthan to generate sustainable livelihood based on handicrafts.
Education
TARA supports non-formal education centers and vocational training centers attached to it’s artisan communities which benifits general public and members of respective artisan communities.
Environment
TARA has been involved in many actions to preserve environment with special focus on water conservation and plantation.
Health
TARA provides affordable health care, medical insurance and health education which benefits the artisan communities and general public.
